Benchmark Universe Library App Chromebook
Before you start This Help page is for teachers and students that have downloaded the Benchmark Universe Library App from the Chrome Web Store. This application is for use on the Chromebook and only contains eBooks for reading. See Add and Install Benchmark Universe Library App Chromebook for information about installing the app, if necessary. |
The Benchmark Universe Library App provides you and your students with a library of eBooks from the CloudThe Cloud or cloud computing means storing and getting applications over the Internet instead of storing and getting the applications from your computer's hard drive. The term Cloud is used today to refer to the Internet, its architecture and technology.. Download your favorites and start reading! You can search by title or keyword, filter by content area, grade and so much more on your mobile device. The number of eBooks available to you for download is based on the type of subscription your school or district has.

You must sign in before you can download and open any eBooks available to you in the Benchmark Universe Library. In addition, you can get technical support if you experience any issue.
If you are a current Benchmark Universe subscriber
Use your current Benchmark Universe user name, password, and district realm information to sign in. The following information is required.
- User Name identifies who you are.
- Password ensures you are you!
- District Realm identifies the district you are a member of. It is the first part of the URL you use to get to Benchmark Universe; for example, "districtrealm.benchmarkuniverse.com".
Click and then type the required information in each box. Contact your technical administrator if you do not know your user name, password, or district realm.
Click the eBook Library App button on your Benchmark Universe Dashboard from this mobile device for immediate access to the Benchmark Universe Library App, without having to sign in! |
Single User
Downloaded eBooks are not cleared from the Device View when you sign out if you are the only user of a Chromebook.
Multiple Users
Downloaded eBooks are cleared from the Device View when you sign out if there are multiple users of a Chromebook.
What is Sync?
Synching enables you to refresh the Benchmark Universe Library when you experience a connectivity issue and get any new eBooks from the Cloud based on your subscription. It does not remove any of your downloaded eBooks. |
About Cloud View - Benchmark Universe Library
The Cloud View is the first page that appears after you successfully sign in. It shows the Benchmark Universe Library full of eBooks available for download.

Click the Cloud icon on the book cover to download an ebook. View the Download process. View additional details about an ebook and delete (remove ebook from the Cloud or Device view). Download the ebook from the Book Details (Info) dialog, if necessary. Note: eBooks that appear dim and have a Cloud icon are eBooks that have not been downloaded to your mobile device. |

- Click the Search box and type a title or keyword. Your search results appear on the page.
Use the Close (x) icon to cancel your Search criteria and search for other eBooks, if necessary. |
- Click the Filter icon. The Book Filters panel appears.
- Click any of the following book filters and select additional filters as needed.
- Content Area
- Letter and Number Level
- Grade, K - 8
- Lexile Level
- Language
Use the arrows to expand and view additional filters. Click the Plus icon (+) to select more filters. Click the Back arrow to go back to the main filters and continue filtering, if necessary. Clicking acts as a toggle and is used to choose or clear your selections. |
- Click the X icon when you are done.
Use Clear to clear all filters and start over. |
- Click the Account Details icon. It shows account details like user name and your latest Sign in date.
Account Details is also used to sign out, contact Technical Support, and view our Privacy Policy. |
- Click the Download (Cloud) icon on the book cover. The ebook is downloaded and ready for use on the Cloud and Device View.
We recommend that you use Device View to open and read your eBooks after downloading. The Device View is your personal library. |
- Click Device and switch from Cloud to Device View.
Device View - My Library
The Device View is your personal library and contains your downloaded eBooks.
Click the top or bottom of the Device View to show/hide the ebook's tools and thumbnails when you open an ebook. |
- Click a book cover to open a book and start reading.
The following default settings are enabled when you open a book.
Use the Gear icon to set and/or clear these and other book settings. |
- Click the Gear icon.
- Select any of the following settings.
- Page auto-flip: slide the button to the left to clear this setting. The pages will not automatically flip. You must swipe to manually turn the pages or use the thumbnails to go to specific pages in the ebook.
- Audio: slide the button left/right to decrease or increase the volume.
- Brightness: Click the light bulb icons to decrease or increase the brightness.
- Click the Open book icon to view bookmarks.
Click the Back arrow to switch between Cloud or Device View, if necessary. |
- Click the Stop (grey box) icon to stop reading.
- Click the Play/Pause icons to read or pause on a specific page of the ebook.
- Click the Ribbon icon to add or remove a bookmark. The icon color changes to red to indicate that a bookmark has been added.
- Click arrows to go to previous/next pages or thumbnails to go to specific pages.
- Click the Book Details icon at the bottom-right of the book cover. A dialog appears with additional options.
- Click Book Details. The Book Details dialog appears that shows additional details about the ebook.
- Click Read to open and read the ebook or Close (X) icon.
- Click the Book Details icon at the bottom-right of the book cover. A dialog appears with additional options.
- Click Delete. The Are you sure you want to delete....message appears.
- Click Yes or No.
The deleted ebook appears dim and is no longer available for use until you download in the Cloud View. The deleted ebook is removed from the Device View. |
